Notes from Maine - 2020/09/26

My list of fall chores is getting shorter. So are the days, of course. I figured out the problem with my mower—needed a new fuel pump. I have a desire to purge a bunch of projects that have accumulated in my basement. Everything needs to be ready for the first snowfall. Hopefully, I have another couple of months before that comes.

One of my favorite books, Extinct, came from daydreaming about a giant snowstorm. I wrote about two characters who reacted to the apocalypse in very different ways. When I first wrote that book, it had big chunks that didn’t make sense to the narrative and I cut them out. One of those chunks turned into an ancillary novella called Black Friday, which I’m giving away today. It began as backstory for Robby, Judy, and some bad guys. If you haven’t read it, I recommend you read Extinct first.
